Alabama State University is once again proving that excellence is not only our traditionβbut our trajectory.
ASU has been awarded a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to support a transformative initiative that will expand education and research in the clean energy and climate sector. This groundbreaking project will empower ASU students with new training, career pathways, and innovation opportunities in one of the most important industries shaping the future.
Through the Minority-Serving Institutions STEM Research & Development Consortium, this grant will allow ASU to create a Clean Energy and Climate Career Pathways Program, equipping students with hands-on experience, industry connections, and technical knowledge. The initiative also addresses critical issues of climate justice and energy equity, ensuring that underrepresented voices are not just includedβbut leading the charge.
The program, led by Dr. Camesha Whittaker of ASUβs Department of Physical Sciences, is designed to bridge the gap between education and workforce development. In her words, βThis program is built on the principle that representation mattersβespecially in spaces that will define how communities live, thrive, and adapt for generations to come.β
For the Class of 2000 and all proud Hornet alumni, this milestone is a powerful reminder of what makes ASU so special. As we celebrate 25 years since we began our journey, we also look aheadβwith pride and purposeβknowing that ASU continues to rise, lead, and innovate.
This grant reflects not only national recognition of ASUβs academic excellence but also its long-standing commitment to service, science, and social impact. And itβs exactly the kind of progress that motivates our classβs fundraising and sponsorship efforts to continue fueling opportunities for the next generation of Hornets.
Join us in supporting ASU students and programs that are changing the world. Your sponsorship, donation, or partnership can help continue this momentumβfrom the classroom to the community.
